The CIBM, Interuniversity Center of Marine Biology and Applied Ecology “G. Bacci ”of Livorno, is a non-profit private law association, established by the Municipality of Livorno, by the Universities of Bologna, Florence, Modena, Pisa, Siena, Turin and Cagliari in 1967. It is recognized by the Ministry of Agricultural Policies , Food and Forestry, as a scientific institute engaged in the fishing and oceanography sector (DM n. 339, 22 December 1979) and has been registered since 1983 in the National Research Registry of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

The CIBM carries out the environmental investigations necessary for the construction of dredging, the installation of cables and pipelines, the construction of piers, dams, coastal nourishment, pollutant analysis, studies and assessments of environmental impact, management of fish resources and protected marine areas , etc.

CIBM promotes advanced and specialized scientific activity in support of university and post-university activities in the environmental sector and carries out consultancy activities for public and private bodies in projects to safeguard the marine and coastal environment. The maintenance of high quality standards of the offer and customer satisfaction are guaranteed by the commitment of the Management in the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the company Quality System and through continuous training of personnel aimed at increasing technical skills.
