            The Consorzio per il Centro Interuniversitario di Biologia Marina ed Ecologia Applicata "Guido Bacci" of Livorno (CIBM) is a non profit institution established the 28 September 1967 by the Municipality of Livorno and the University of Bologna, Firenze, Modena, Pisa, Siena, and Torino.
             
            The legal claim of CIBM was acknowledged by the Italian Republic President decree n. 496 (6 March 1968), published on the Official Journal n. 110 (2 May 1968); according to the Ministry decree n. 339 (22 December 1979), published on the Official Journal n. 12 (14 January 1980), CIBM is acknowledged as a scientific institute involved in fishery research and oceanography by the Ministry of Merchant Navy. Since 1983, CIBM is admitted into the National Registry Office of Scientific Research drawn up by the Ministry of University and Scientific Research (ref. n. G158001G).

CIBM is managed by:

  1. A Scientific commitee constituted by the directors of the University Departments and by other members. Dr. Stefano De Ranieri, from the University of Pisa, is currently the Director of the Scientific committee;
  2. A Board of directors constituted by the chancellor of the University associated. The board is chaired by the Mayor of Livorno. Dr. Alessandro Lippi is currently the President;
  3. A Board of auditors.

            In 1992 CIBM stipulated a collaboration agreement with ICRAM (Istituto Centrale per la Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica Applicata al Mare) of Rome. Since 1998, ICRAM has associated with CIBM.

Aims and Scope: “Favour the scientific research in the framework of the environment conservation and management; develop advanced and specialized didactic activities, in order to complete and support university and post-university didactics; make aware the public opinion of the environment aspects”.
